I have been reading in Acts for the past week or so, and I got to Acts chapter 9 where Paul gets saved and begins his life of service to God. In Acts 7 and 8 we see Paul in roles of persecuting the church and specifically allowing the stoning of Stephen. It is amazing to me how everything in Paul’s life changes after hearing the voice of God on the road to Damascus.
Something that I never realized in Paul’s story until reading it through this time is that he was on his way to Damascus to persecute more believers. He was on a specific trip to put believers in Christ in prison.
It is amazing to me how God stops Paul in his tracks and turns his life completely around! Paul is told by God now to go into Damascus now not to persecute believers, but to be equipped for ministry!
God uses Ananias to go to Paul and take away his blindness and baptize him. God tells Ananias that Paul is, “My chosen instrument to carry My Name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel.” (Acts 9:15)
Amazing! God chooses to use the most unlikely people in the most unlikely places to impact His kingdom. Paul is an amazing man in the Bible, and it is so cool to read about the ministry that he had with the early church knowing his backround. It is encouraging to know that God really can use anyone for His kingdom.
